Allergies
How
much do know about allergies and the
potential dangers that can
risefrom an allergic reaction
to something that the body or skin does not
agree with. Serious complications can
happen because of allergies and especially
more so for people with a nut allergy or to
that of a bee sting.
If a
person has an allergic reaction to
something that they are seriously
allergic too, then it can be very
dangerous to their health. People
have died through having an allergic
reaction. Because each individual
differs so will the way a reaction
will differ too.
Allergic symptoms are
normally recognized by a runny nose, nasal
congestion, sneezing; (hay fever), red
eyes; even itchiness around the ears. Other
symptoms are a tickle in the throat, cough,
asthma, wheezing, and shortness of breath,
hives, and eczema.
Why do
people develop allergies, well the answer
is, people develop an overactive immune
system in which certain gamma globulins are
overproduced by the body. Gamma globulins
are vital for helping fight bacterial
infections. If pronunciations of the
clinical words used above confuse you, then
ask your doctor to explain in more
detail.
Testing at an ENT centre
for allergies are usually quite simple and
straight forward and
painless.
In the
view of allergies, one of the gamma
globulins called IgE functions abnormally
and cites the allergens as being a foreign
bacteria, following this the IgE attempts
to kill it. When contact is made it then
attaches itself to the pollen then a
barrage of chemicals including histamine
are released into the body from cells
called Mast cells, therefore the outcome
unpleasant symptoms. A regular reason for
an allergy attack is directed towards the
food we eat.
Some foods
determined as dangerous can be found
contained in nuts, peanuts and shellfish.
This does not apply to everyone, only the
people who have been tested as to having a
problem with these particular foods. These
food items can cause death of a young child
in two ways if they are allergic to them.
Number 1 laryngospasm. What happens is,
after eating - immediate swelling happens
and spreads to the vocal cords. Because of
this the vocal cords swell close, thus
causing breathing problems for the child.
The other is called anaphylactic shock.
About two hours after eating the child goes
into shock and dies.
Other deaths
known from an allergic is if reaction stung
by a bee. A bee sting is always potentially
serious and dangerous to those with the
allergy. The severity and duration of a
reaction can vary from one person to
another. Bear in mind that not all people
is affected in the same way and do not die
from a bee sting. (Venom) If you would like
more information on causes behind certain
allergies go along to your clinic or call
into see your doctor who will give you
leaflets on allergies.
House
dust is another problem for causing people
to have an allergic reaction. There are
ways to find out what you are allergic too
– which is a good idea so you can avoid
them to stay safe and healthy. More can be
found on hay fever and the issue of pollen
allergies too.
