Inverted Nipples

What are inverted nipples and should I be concerned if I see a change in my breasts. This is a common question asked by many women as well as the most common of all, are inverted nipples an abnormality.

Well the breasts naturally have protruding nipples but it is not rare to find a woman with one inverted nipple or two. This condition normally develops during puberty hence causing a shortage of milk ducts. Surgery is normally carried out to correct the problem.

During surgery the region around the inverted nipple is cut to release it from the surrounding tissue, after medical treatment the area will be re-stitched so that it protrudes.

Surgery is normally performed under local or general anaesthetic. As long as there are no complications the patient can leave hospital the same day. If you have any concerns regarding the understanding of any part of your treatment then always ask questions. One question asked regularly is - will it leave a scar, yes, but a little one. If you are expecting a baby (Pregnant) then ask your doctor if it will affect your breastfeeding, the reason you need to ask is because the milk ducts may have been cut during the operation.

Cosmetic surgery is performed by plastic surgeons on hundreds of thousands of people everyday from around the world. However, whether it is breast implants, breast reduction or the correction of inverted nipples any type of operation can be dangerous.

If you notice you have inverted nipples and they have not appeared from your puberty years but overnight, then this could mean another problem. Call your doctor and book an appointment to speak with him or her. You should put a date in your diary to do a regular self breast examination; early detection of any abnormality betters your odds of any treatment being a success.

Seek medical advice if you notice that the nipples have suddenly become inverted.

Never use unfamiliar beauty products on the skin because it can worsen the problem you are treating. Never go off the advice of a friend or use their medication, this is for your own safety, what may have been prescribed for a friend or member of your family will have no affect on your condition due to the fact of severity of the ailment or if it be a complaint as such as that of your friend - only your doctor is in the position to determine this.

Do not be embarrassed over having an inverted nipple or nipples; this condition as you are aware is treatable. It is important that if an early detection of an abnormal finding is brought to your doctor’s attention sooner than later then it increases the success of any treatment working to remedy the condition.
