Pregnancy Skin
Pregnancy Skin - During pregnancy a
woman may notice a change in her skin as well as other
changes in her life when the pregnancy is finally over
and caring for her new baby takes its toll i.e. sleepless
nights which include bags and puffiness around the
eyes.
Some women during pregnancy have been
fortunate enough to possess a compelling complexion
- what is referred to as the “warm glow of expectancy”
throughout the full term of their nine months. However in
contrast we have those that unfortunately didn’t. This
healthy glow is probably due to the increased blood
circulation and the high sustained levels of oestrogen
during pregnancy. At this stage women are vulnerable and
acne is a common condition known to erupt at this
time.

Some skin problems can be recognised
towards pregnancy like chloasma (referred to as the mask
of pregnancy), pruritus (itching) and hives. For more
information on these health issues you must talk to your
doctor. During pregnancy in
the summer months the skin should be protected with a
sunscreen and even at times when not with child. The
sun’s damaging ultra violet rays are more dangerous than
you can imagine. In some cases fatal. The ultra violet
rays cause the skin to dry up; unnecessary exposure to
direct sunlight increases the risk of skin cancer or
result in you fast forwarding your image to appear with
signs of premature aging. (Dried

During pregnancy the skin is more
sensitive so therefore more reason to smother your self in sun
protection cream or lotion. When cleansing the skin take extra
care because pregnant women’s skin tends to be oilier during
their pregnancy. Greasy skin (oily) can lead to clogged pores
of which can have you seeing blackheads white heads pimples or
spots. Consult a beautician or doctor as to what treatment is
the best remedy for your skin type. Use a suitable cleansing
agent that is gentle on the skin and serves its purpose. Always
follow instructions accordingly as instructed on any medication
packaging. A mild gentle specially formulated daily scrub can
also be used, if you suffer a reaction to any facial potion
then discontinue using the product right away
Regardless of times during
pregnancy or not - some women tend to have oilier skin;
conversely there are those whose skin become drier. Pregnant
women should moisturise regularly using a moisturiser that
protects the skin keeping it soft and supple. Women who suffer
from oily skin should not use an oil-based moisturiser. For the
ladies with dry skin - then they should use an oil-based
moisturiser or cream. Ask your pharmacist behind the chemist
counter about treatments which are available and suitable to
treat your dry skin or acne.
Drink plenty of water during
pregnancy - as water cleans out the system and purges toxins
from the body. By drinking plenty of water it helps the skin to
look and stay supple and appear clear. Always consult your
doctor before following any third party advice given on health
and
beauty.
